About Us

IFS is affiliated to International Federation of Fertility Societies.( IFFS)

Infertility and Reproductive endocrinology is a vibrant science and majority of gynecologists are interested in acquiring skills and knowledge in this field to be able to treat their patients in the best way possible. This science has developed in leaps and bounds since 1978 when Louise Brown became a reality. Now infertile patients who had no real options except adoption, can be offered so many alternatives. The last 30 years have seen many new developments in this field. Drugs which produce ovulation induction, gonadotropins to stimulate the ovaries to a multifollicular development, techniques of sperm washing and ultimately in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection and various other technical developments have made it possible to help majority of infertile patients in various ways.

There was no forum where doctors interested in this field could have interaction on a regular basis. There was also no activity to update knowledge on a regular basis. In 2005, Indian Fertility Society was formed with the idea of giving a platform for interested professionals to communicate with each other, interact and improve their own skills so that better care could be given to the patients. There was a overwhelming response and the membership kept growing. Presently we have over 500 members. There was also a lot of interest from other states and eight other states joined the Society with the idea that they will have their own educational activities in their own areas and will have an annual common meeting where all the groups could meet.

This exercise was purely for improving the level of knowledge and expertise in the field and to carry out research and multicentric studies on various projects for which there is no indigenous data and foreign studies have to be refered to. This a very important but neglected area in our country and we have really no systematic data on diseases like tuberculosis, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian disease, premature ovarian failure in our own population. Individually one cannot get enough material to know the answers to many questions pertaining to these diseases and we keep following guidelines given by foreign scientists which may not be the best for our patients.

In the last five years, IFS has been very active in organizing meetings for continuing medical education which have been very popular. IFS newsletters dealing with various different topics and surveying the latest developments in the field were also well received. The Annual conferences three in Delhi and one in Chandigarh, were also a great success.

This year, the conference ‘Fertivision 2011’ will be held in Delhi on December  16,17and18  at the Habitat Centre, New Delhi, the details for which are available on this website.

IFS has also got the honour of hosting the Word Cogress International Federation of Fertilty Societies ( IFFS)  at Hyderabad in 2016 along with ISAR. This will really be a feast of scientific knowledge which all the members of IFFS should avail of.
